Inspired: A Furniture Restoration Business in Maryland

Posted on

I love a good before and after. We’ve done a few, and this column on Design*Sponge was always my fav. So, imagine my joy when I stumbled across this blog via Pinterest. They really bring some amazing furniture back from the dead. Modern Chair Restoration is a business in Maryland dedicated to restoring mid-century furniture. If you want to see more detail or get more information click on the names to link back to their site.

Some of my favorite transformations:

Erik Kierkegaard chair

Now I’m a fan of bright colors and colorful patterns, but not this pattern, not that fabric and not on that chair. Sometimes you just need to go back to basics. Job well done.

A (maybe) Milo Baughman round chair

I love how this restoration seems like it’s just a chair going back in time. Now true, it probably isn’t the exact fabric, but the level of sun-damage and wear on the “before” just make the “after” look so much more vibrant. Which is perfect for this interestingly cushioned chair.

A Shaw-Walker office chair

I love how they used the same color scheme, just refreshed in this mod print.

Hans Wegner chair

Besides reupholstering, what if the seat is made of cane? No problem! How amazing is this? Goodness, I would die for that chair. Here’s a close up of the re-energized wood.

Check out that beautiful wood grain.

Aren’t those stunning? The beauty of the internet. I wish we were on the same side of the country so we could work together, oh well. Definitely inspiring to see what you can do with furniture that has good bones. Check out the site for more great transformations.
