Don’t you just love Pinterest? We sure do, it’s awesome to see how people are thinking up creative ideas for everything under the sun. One trend I’ve noticed is all the things you can do with vintage books. There is nothing quite like the feel of worn fabric binding and the artwork printed on the cover and spine are unparalleled by the books sold today. But alas, in this day of Kindles and iPads, many of us find it too difficult to carry around actual books to read. But never fear! Here are five ways to reuse books around your home that bring value as well as that great tactile feel.
1. Book iPhone (or other smart phone) dock
{Tutorial here. For sale in this etsy shop. }
I love this project because, quite simply, a lot of us need this. A charging dock for your smart phone is a near necessity and if you use it as an alarm clock like I do then you’ll have it on your bedside table too. What better way to hide the cord and keep your phone upright?
2. Book lamp base
{Tutorial here}
This one is more on the quirky side, but if you have a side table you need to jazz up or if you are fortunate to have a library, this could be the perfect addition. If I were doing this, I would make decoupage a lampshade like this one to go with it.

3. Book Kindle (or other tablet) case
{Tutorial here.}
Yes, another tech case, but I thought this was a great way to show the roots of literature while entering the digital age. Plus it’s easy to do, protects your gadget and well, looks pretty cool too.
4. Book clock
{tutorial here, for sale here.}
This is a great DIY for the kitchen or office, but could also be adapted quite well to a kids room, with a fairy tales book. So simple but so chic and it really lets the cover shine.
5. Book jewelry box
{tutorial here.}
This one is just for the girls. I don’t know about you, but I have always had some sort of box on the bathroom counter as a sort of catch all for jewelry, bobby pins, makeup, whatever. I think this is such a cute DIY box that is a little time consuming but super chic!
Well, there you have it. Five unique ways to bring some of that old world library feel to your house in ways other than styling your bookshelves (although that works too!) And if you are looking for some inspiration, The plaza has a plethora of old books, just waiting to be remade. Happy Wednesday!
