While we were in California, I picked up some old state tax tokens at an antique mall in Beaumont. They were 10 for $1 and I couldn’t resist buying them despite not knowing what I would do with them. Then I saw this tutorial on making a washer necklace and I knew it would be super easy to adapt to use these.
I used a leather cord and knotted a loop into one end. {I knew I would be using a small coin for a closure so I based my loop size on that} The cord I used was about 30 inches, so in half it would be 15 inches. I chose to double the cord up and send both strands through, so each side of the bracelet will have two strands on each.
{Note: since the bracelet is bent in a different way then the original washer necklace, the leather cord helped with the flexibility.}
String the first one on, (make sure the knot will hold fast) and follow with a second straight-away.
Once the second coin is on, pull the cord back up through the middle.
And then back through the middle of the second, tucking half of the second coin under the first.
Just continue on however long you want to go. If you get confused about which way to pull the cord through, remember each coin will have only one set of cords on each side, there is no doubling up.

Once the desired length is reached, loop once through the middle of the last coin and knot. Slide on the small coin for closure and knot to cinch it closed.
I really like how it turned out and because the coins are tin or aluminum it’s super lightweight too. This would also be perfect to do with foreign money as a way to remember a vacation. If you make one of your own please let us know!
